COAM -possible tasks of a parish Liaison

sunburst Make people aware you are their liaison through parish newsletters, weekly bulletins, bulletin boards and parish announcements.
sunburst Share resources on aging, including newspaper clippings, with clergy and congregations.
sunburst promote activities honoring older adults in your parish, perhaps in May which is Aging in Action Month.
sunburst Recruit members of your parish to attend COAM sponsored workshops and seminars
sunburst Sponsor a parish workshop or seminar with the help of COAM committee members and invite neighboring churches.
sunburst Send articles to the Maryland Church News or to our newsletter The Gift of Aging {The Rev. Lance Gifford, 1700 South Rd., Baltimore 21209}
sunburst Be alert for opportunities for legislative action and alert others.
sunburst Begin building a resource center in your parish and use the one at the Diocesan Center 1-800-433-1399 or 410-467-1399
sunburst Read and review books on Older Adult issues and ministries for the Maryland Church News or The Gift of Aging.
sunburst Connect with other organizations in your church to do inter-generational ministry and share the results
sunburst Be ecumenical and find out what is happening in churches, synagogues and mosques near your church.
sunburst Get on mailings lists for governmental and educational institutions that deal with issues of aging.
sunburst Consider taking leadership within the Committee on Older Adult Ministries.
sunburst Visit our web page monthly.  If you don't have a computer, get a web friend.  A web friend--a person who prints out monthly relevant information on the COAM web page and gives it to a parish Liaison.
