PARISH NURSING

The Committee on Older Adult Ministries (COAM) in the Diocese of Maryland is seeking to develop a list of congregations that have active Parish Nurses.  The Parish Nurse program is surely the most striking and innovative program of health ministry that has emerged in the last decade.  The roles of the Parish Nurse as health educator, advocate, health counselor, community liaison, and volunteer trainer are central to health promotion and disease prevention.

We are rediscovering the relationship of body, mind, and spirit in healing and wholeness as it relates to the body of Christ. The committee believes that it will be of great value to disseminate information about the Parish Nurse program so that more congregations can benefit from such ministry.

We are also seeking information on which parishes, while not having a Parish Nurse, may have a Health Ministry Program. A network of such persons would be invaluable for sharing resources and ideas.Please communicate information on Parish Nurse Programs, with the name of the Parish Nurse, and whether or not a Health Ministry Program is ongoing in your parish.
